Abstract. Land management science and practice form the land management system aimed at regulating land relations. Currently, the land management system is undergoing changes: the provisions of land management as a field of activity differ from the provisions of land management as a field of knowledge. However, land management science should provide specific recommendations for improving land management practices and, conversely, land management practices should provide recommendations for land management science. The area of improving the institutional environment for innovative development of land management and land surveying involves actions to improve land legislation, the land management process, standardisation of the structure, content and process of developing land management projects, etc. that help reduce transaction costs for land management, accelerate the process of greening and capitalisation of land use.
